every once in a while i will find a long hair
hidden between the sheets, tangled on a sweater
i will hold it from end to end
and ask - what does it mean to grow up?
i care better, but my skin is dry
it means learning that sometimes the only act
of kindness by some people
is letting me go
grown up, shown up, groan - who cares?
you celebrate me and i don't care
i leave after i find the hair
you can't force me to celebrate
i can't, i don't want it
i want to sleep
but grown ups say to brush before
and growing up
hurts.
